A Helping Hand for the Potts Family – Trusting God in Uncertain Times

Our dear friends, Gene, Tracy, and Abby Potts, are facing one of the most challenging seasons of their lives. After 19+ years of serving in Christian nonprofit leadership, Gene was laid off due to a restructuring last spring, thereby also losing Abby's tuition benefit. Since then, he has pursued every opportunity to find a job that will provide for his family. Despite working with 40+ recruiters and coaches, heavily networking, applying to hundreds of local, in-state, and out-of-state jobs, and making it through several multi-round interviews, the doors have not yet opened.

Recently, Gene began a temporary job to help with immediate expenses, but it will only last a few weeks. While this provides some short-term relief, it does not change the reality that this family is still facing financial hardship and uncertainty about the future.

With no stable income, the Potts family is struggling to cover both household expenses (including three broken major appliances and a plumbing leak) and Abby’s schooling. Tracy’s health challenges limit her ability to work full-time, and their pricey, marketplace HMO insurance does not cover Abby’s neurologist nor her expensive neurological medication—adding even more financial strain.

One of their biggest concerns is Abby’s education. She has thrived over the past seven years in her small Christian school (class of 109), where she has flourished academically and built friendships, faith, and stability. If they are unable to make tuition work at her current school, they hope to find another small Christian school where she can continue receiving a Christ-centered education in a supportive environment. A last resort would be to transition to their local, public high school with a graduating class seventeen times larger (1800+)—a daunting shift in the midst of already difficult circumstances.

If you know Gene and Tracy, you know their faithfulness and heart to serve others. Despite their hardships, the Potts family remains steadfast—trusting in God’s provision and continuing to seek His guidance. They have always been committed to following the Lord, and now, as they walk through this season of uncertainty, they are leaning on Him more than ever.
