Hi, we are Cowpassion, a nonprofit organization that aims to raise funds for cows we have rescued. Raised funds will be given to the Potekoro & Friends Sanctuary Project in my home country of Japan.

Our goal is to save our beloved cow Potekoro by the end of this year, 2022. And establish a sustainable farm as Animals (- earth) co-prosperous agriculture in Japan. To do this, we greatly need your help with funding.

This fundraising deadline is Dec 11th.

-Our story

In January 2022, we rescued a retired dairy cow named Potekoro. We support Potekoro financially via my group Vegmama (an online Japanese moms group that studies Plant Based nutrition ) with the help of a dairy farmer in Hokkaido who raised Potekoro.

At first, our goal was to transition the dairy farm to a cow sanctuary and sustainable vegetable farm in 5 to 10 years. Unfortunately, due to the struggling Japanese dairy industry, Potekoro's caretaker must sell the farm by the end of 2022.

We now have less than a few months to find a new home for Potekoro. If we fail, Potekoro will likely be sold to a slaughterhouse. The last thing we want is to give up on Potekoro’s life.

Luckily, we met our collaborator for this project, Ms.Tani. She runs the Moo Mow Garden in Fukushima, a sanctuary for 11 cows that survived the devastating Tohoku earthquake of 2011. Because of local government regulations, Moo Mow Garden cannot accept additional cows, so we need a new place for the Potekoro & Friends Sanctuary.

As of November 2022, we are negotiating with local governments and landowners for a new site. Potentially it will be between 2 and 20 hectares in size (that's roughly 5 to 50 acres). The sooner we raise funds, the sooner we can sign a contract for the land and start setting up the sanctuary.

Initial funds are required, but once we establish the necessities for the sanctuary, the cows can live freely with minimal operating costs.

The cows can survive by consuming the natural vegetation in abandoned farmlands which will also benefit environmental conservation. Thanks to the fertile cow droppings, vegetables and fruits will continue to grow and will be easily harvested using natural farming methods.

Since we are planning to have large enough land for multiple cows to live, we can likely rescue another cow from the same dairy farm. It just depends on how much we can raise. Cows instinctively like to live in groups with their herd mates. If possible, we would like to help them to live in a new land together. With your support, we plan to rescue not just one but two cows. Down the road, we hope to be able to scale the project up and save additional cows.

There is a chance that this project could be changed or delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, but we are determined to use all funds collected to help these cows and build a sustainable farm sanctuary.
