Be a bud, save my spud!
Early last week, during a routine wellness checkup, my sweet Potato was diagnosed with cancer. Specifically, a fairly large mast cell tumor was discovered on the side of her belly. If that wasn’t crushing enough, upon her follow-up ultrasound her vet detected gallstones and a urinary tract infection. It seems the perfect storm has been quietly forming around my favorite little spud. While this news would be burdensome at any time it is proving particularly devastating during a pandemic. Since the news dropped, costs for surgery and various other medical needs have already began rapidly mounting up. Currently, her bills are on pace to exceed $5,000.
Potato is the love of my life. I plucked her from a cardboard box almost 8 years ago during a warm spring afternoon in San Francisco and she has been my unfailing companion on countless adventures ever since. She was born on St. Patrick’s Day and she is my heart’s lucky charm. I’ve never met another creature she hasn’t brought joy to with love to spare. She’s a legendary sniper-like kisser and epic seat stealer. Potato is also the greatest of camping companions. On the trail she is more mountain goat than dog and in the tent she always insists on sharing my sleeping bag (I had one made for her but it didn’t matter). I truly don’t know where I would be without her.
I’m a bartender/restaurant manager that lost my job due to Covid-19 and as all those familiar with the pandemic know opportunities in that particular industry have proven slim over the last year. Her medical bills are astronomical to me right now and I’m looking for ANY financial help possible to take care of her expenses. I am happy to trade services or work in any way I can to help. I also have a bit of artistic talent in illustration and various other visual medias that can be tapped for use.
It is tough to tell when my chosen industry will catch a break but hopefully as vaccines roll out some semblance of normalcy will return and things will open back up and I can get back to work. It seems every step forward has been met with a brick wall. Please consider helping me save my best friend. Literally any amount will help to ensure this St. Patrick’s Day isn’t her last birthday.
