Help This Black Owned Lactation Clinic in Alabama.
Hello, my name is Kayla Bitten, also known as The Modern Doula , and I am a childbirth and breastfeeding educator. I am also the Director of the community support program,Coloring Between The Lines - breastfeeding support meetings, classes, and workshops for low-income mothers of color within North and Central Alabama.
I provide childbirth education, coping with labor, and breastfeeding education to prenatal and postpartum families. I have seen the declining number of maternal care and health in Alabama since moving here from California over 4 years ago.
Since relocating here, I have made it my mission to ensure that care is accessible by operating as much online as I do in-person. Since the pandemic, it has become disheartening seeing the treatment and disregard of families of color within my state. I decided to take my knowledge as a childbirth and breastfeeding educator and further root it in advocacy and sustainability by studying to become a Certified Lactation Counselor and gain clinical hours to become a IBCLC and open up what I have decided to call, The Postpatum Clinic - A postpartum wellness space and lactation clinic for families of color to receive the education, care, counseling, consulting, and support they need.
This would be the first, black-owned lactation clinic in Alabama.
Please help me bring neccessary and accessible lactation and postpartum care to families of color in Alabama.
