A dear friend Danna Mitchell-Carter underwent a lung transplant Christmas Eve! She went in for a check up a couple of months ago then  was surprisingly sent to the hospital and placed at the top of the transplant registry.  

Once she is released she will need to stay within a few miles of the hospital (hospital regulations for transplants) for at least six weeks. This cost is not covered by insurance. She will need to be near UCSF Medical Center.  

Danna taught music in Bay Area high schools for over 20 years. Needless to say, although richly rewarding, it does not allow for her to bear this type of financial burden without planning, which she did not have time to do.
