The American Legion post 140 at Chastain Park is looking to rebuild the aged pavilion located in the rear of the property. This pavilion is probably 70 years old or older, and has lost its functionality. The plan is to remove, then rebuild a bit larger one more centered in the back site area which can be used as an outdoor entertaining area, as an adjunct to other activities and as an outdoor venue on its own if someone does not want to be inside.

Even if you are not a veteran, you may have attended an event or party at the Post. We rent out the Legion Hut for community events, and this renovation will serve our renters, as well as our Veterans.

You can see the current pavilion in the photo. There will be demolition of the pavilion, then constructing a new pavilion with the posts located about where the orange cones are placed. There are no trees nearby and will be no excavation other than the holes for the new pavilion footings. Note the closest tree is about 25 ft. behind the pavilion.

WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP!

The estimated cost for this project is as much as $25,000 and we are looking for supporters who will consider defraying some of this cost. For example the materials cost alone is probably $5,000 or so. Permitting has cost almost $2,000.

One Plan:

-Remove 11’ x16’ roof structure and replace with 16’ x 24’

-Use the same look as existing structure

-Remove the asphalt and replace with larger footprint area

-Center new structure between ball field and wooded area

-Add four picnic tables for under structure use or outside structure

-Install a permanent grill structure for fires, hot dogs etc.

-Rent as an outdoor space
