Hello, my name is Chuckwagon. I was given that name by the emergency rescue workers who saved me because, despite being on the verge of death when I was rescued, I still wagged my tail when I saw them.
I am a six month old boxer who should weigh approximately 60 lbs, however, I am so malnourished that I weigh less than 10 lbs.
When I was rescued and brought to a veterinary emergency medical hospital hospital, they immediately saw that I have severe burns in my mouth that will result in me losing most if not of all of my teeth. My skin is also infested with maggots and other opportunistic parasites.
I was so hungry that I've been eating dirt, and it is speculated that, in my desperation for food, I ate through an electrical cord. The electrical burn damage was so severe that my gums have been burned away beyond repair and my tooth roots are destroyed. If I am to live, most of my teeth will have to be removed.
The good news is that I am being treated at Central Texas Veterinary Speciality and Emergency Hospital in Austin, Texas. I have improved significantly after receiving many blood transfusions and around the clock care. My treatment has been very expensive, and I am not out of the woods yet.
I was abandoned by my former owners, but I have been adopted by a loving rescue mom who is caring for me and who will continue to care for me if I am released from the hospital. I can't wait to live a normal dog life in a loving home, but I have to make it through my triage care first.
My survival still isn't certain, but I am fighting, as are my caregivers. I am improving daily, but my treatment is expensive. My rescuers know I am worth it, but they need some help to pay my medical bills. My new family and I beg you to find it in your heart to give just a little bit to help me heal. They have promised that if I get another chance, they will not take your generosity for granted. They have promised to give me the life of a dog who is a beloved member of a wonderful family. I have never known such a life, but I am already learning that its possible because of the loving way I'm being treated.
I beg you for the opportunity to know what it's like to live in a loving home. My new family begs you for the opportunity to save me and to show me how an animal should be loved and treated as a family pet. Your generosity will forever be remembered and appreciated by all of us.
My tail wags for you. Even if I don't have the privilege of wagging my tail for you in person, I hope the next time to see the wagging tail of a happy dog, you think of me. Thank you for your consideration. May God bless you and us.
