PORTRAIT- A Horror Short Film!
Donation protected
Portrait, a neo- noir horror film, will begin shooting in July 2021 with an amazing cast in front of the camera, and a dedicated crew behind it. With the help of your donations, we can make the scariest horror film yet!
Beyond a terrifying addition to the horror genre, Portrait is a virtual reality film using 360 degree cameras.
360 degree cameras capture the entire environment around the camera. In a theater, this leads to the screen wrapping completely around the viewer, enveloping them in the world of the story... In other words, 360 degree cameras redefine horror- and we have the pleasure of using four of them!
Your donations will not only be used to build our film, but will also secure you a perk (listed below) as a thank you from the production team and certificate of your help in crafting this project!

About Us
Hi, I’m Matt Markayze and I am the Co-Director of Portrait. I am majoring in Television and Film Arts and I love Reece peanut butter cups. Since I started watching scary movies at an early age, I have now grown up to love every grisly aspect that makes a scary movie work. Some say it’s desensitization... I says it’s appreciation. I very much have a strong passion for all things horror and I really enjoy the creative story telling aspects that go into crafting something truly unnerving. Film has always been an important part of my life and I truly savor the experience scary stories are able to provide for an audience. With this project, I am hoping that myself and my fellow incredibly talented and hardworking filmmakers can open the door to new ways horror, and movies in general, can be experienced.
Hi! I’m Sydney Baker-Hendryx, cinematographer for Portrait and an aspiring horror film geek. Beyond a love of mask-wearing, blade-wielding, mass murderers like Jason Vorhees and Michael Meyers, my favorite aspect of horror filmmaking is experiencing an engaging story. With Portrait, our team members get the privilege of exploring a new form of storytelling- virtual reality. Virtual reality utilizes 360 degree cameras to create an immersive experience akin to living out a story in real life. One day, 360 degree films like Portrait will be the new normal. Until then, I keep myself entertained by watching Friday the 13th and planning this amazing film with the dedicated group I get the pleasure to work with.
Hello! My name is Camden Gradwell and I am the Writer and Production Designer of the film, Portrait. I am dual majoring in television and film arts and English literature at SUNY Buffalo State College. I am a huge fan of horror films spanning from The Insidious Franchise to classics like John Carpenter’s films. I am an aspiring screenwriter and director for television and film. I’m really excited for audiences to see Portrait when we are done with it. Combining the intensity of scares with 360 degree and Virtual Reality technology, we will be able to terrify audiences in front of them, behind them, to their side and even from above! So, please take a seat, grab some popcorn, and wait patiently for Portrait!
Hi! My name is Emmaus Nakagawa, and I am a Co-Director for the film Portrait. I am currently a Senior at Buffalo State College in the Television and Film Arts Program. I'm not usually a fan of horror films, I'm not afraid to say I scare easy. But there's a difference between watching horror from the product and watching horror as we make it, so I can definitely handle this horror film. I am an aspiring director in the Film Industry, with the goal to focus on storytelling and character development in a climate with Action Fever. And Portrait is no different. Though we'll definitely be looking for every opportunity to scare you, there's plenty of opportunities to make you care for our characters before they're killed. Add in the ingredient of Virtual Reality and we've got the recipe for a spectacular film that is sure to explore new ways to tell stories as well as scare you. Thanks so much in advance for supporting us as filmmakers, and we hope to see you at the Premiere!
A few months from now, with your help, our team will look back on our completed film and be proud that Portrait is part of the evolution of the horror genre, thanks to the amazing filmmakers, cast and generous sponsors!
