Prepare to Enter The Portal .
If you had a secret room in your mind, and you had the key to that room, where would you keep the key?
The Portal is an installation by Logan Taylor and Alyssa Young that will make its debut in March at BeQuinox 2016. It is a transporting, interactive space designed to bring each visitor to a secret room in their mind, where the narratives that no longer serve them can be laid to rest. Visitors are invited to both explore the memories collected in the Library of Lost Memory and to add their own.
Memories are collected via audio recording and transferred to cassette tapes. Each individual that submits a memory will have their own dedicated cassette tape that they may add to over time. Visitors to the Library may check out these tapes and listen to these memories.
Please help us bring this space out of our dreams and into the waking world. Scroll down to learn more about our plans, budget, and reward tiers.

Our Budget
Structural Materials: $1500
This will cover all building materials for the structure including wood, fasteners, ventilation, and lighting.
Decorative Materials: $1000
This will cover the cost of building out the interior of the Library of Lost Memory, including fabric for the walls and ceiling, cassette tapes for the memory archives, tape recorders, phone receivers, and all other materials necessary to bring the space to life.
Transportation: $1500
We'll need to rent a box truck to get the installation from Oakland to Joshua Tree and back. Box truck rental comes in at $1200-$1500, plus the cost of gas.
Stretch Mark Goals
Infinity Mirrored Hallway: Additional $1000

Let's build a hallway to break the mind before you enter it.
Infinity Room Star Galaxy: Additional $3000

Why stop at a hallway when we could make a 15' x 15' infinite abyss that lets you travel to the ends of the universe? We'll even setup a surround sound system for the ultimate sound bath.

Our Plan
The team working on this project has put together several successful installations at festivals such as Burning Man, Lighting in a Bottle, Sea of Dreams, UnScruz, Steampunk Masquerade, last year's BeQuinox, and more.
We do things like this:
the copper trailer
and this
the copper saloon
Let's build something new
The blueprint has been made and we're in the process of acquiring materials. The rest of February will be spent putting together the structure, collecting memories, and sourcing the decorative materials. The first week of March will be spent putting finishing touches on the space and playtesting the experience. We'll drive down to BeQuinox on the 15th, set up on the 16th, and facilitate Library visits for festival attendees the 17th-20th.

Ways you can help:
-Donate to the campaign! In all seriousness, every dollar helps our campaign gain momentum.
-Share via social media, email, and worth of mouth. The more we can get the word out, the more likely we are to achieve our goal.
-Like our Facebook page! We'll be posting regular updates about our progress there, and that's where you can learn how to submit a memory of your own to the Library. Learn more at https://www.facebook.com/theportalproject2016/
-We're looking for a lectern for the Night Librarian. If you happen to have one you're willing to donate to the project, let us know!
-If you have cheap resources for wood and mirrors in the Bay Area, or happen to be a brilliant woodworker, let us know that too!
