The Art City Monsters are using funds and in kind donations to build, transport and install project PORTAL as our gift for Burning Man 2019. We encourage you to join our team with your support today.
"PORTAL" is an interactive multimedia sculpture designed for Burning Man 2019. PORTAL received recognition by Burning Man organizers through an Honorarium grant which covers 22K of the total project budget of 35k. Our 13k crowdfunding goal allows us to acquire all the resources needed for full implementation and what we call PORTAL TransFortation!
The Art City Monsters team is comprised of a build crew led by project designer David Oliver, project co-lead Kevin Carman, build coordinator Vinny Amorosino, crowdfunding and media lead Jason Brock, laser light wizard Tom Sapia, site coordinator and build team member Paulina Truong, documentary film producer John Treur, advisor Paul Lindhard (founder of Art City) and many other volunteers and contributors. Art City Monsters is also a music experiment of free-form psychedelic exploration. project PORTAL is a culmination of many shared skill sets and vision. We are a tight group of mates who live what we do to bring artistic experiences to life. Art City is located in downtown Ventura California ans is hailed as the hub of local artistic culture.
The PORTAL is comprised of a metal ring 12 feet in diameter decorated with 4,608 glass tiles totalling 24 colors in a flowing mosaic of the color wheel. Two natural basalt columns stand left and right of the ring with three copper rods attached to the ring on each side, and also to the side of each column, securing the PORTAL upright. Stone stairs lead PORTAL participants into and through the portal membrane which is bathed in light and sound. Festival goers are given the opportunity to transform through the art of the PORTAL. The strength of design and materials make PORTAL an architectural feat well suited for mother nature’s ever changing temperament, and the interactive experience is enhanced by its artistic detail. Latest progress as of Aug. 5th.
We will continue to raise funds throughout all phases of the project and we offer gifts at a certain level of contribution. We are also accepting in kind donations of material needs. Please contact us if you are able to contribute in this way.
