Photographing Communities Impacted by COVID

Donation protected

The Porch Project, is a reaction to the enforced isolation of the coronavirus period. Refusing to allow physical distance to break the community bonds I have constructed for years, I picked up my camera and walked down the sidewalk, photographing my neighbors from a safe distance.

The portraits are an intimate freeze-frame of a world historic moment, told by the faces of those who live it. The series has been called “life-changing” and “the kinds of photographs that record and change history.”

Though many photographers have joined the Porch Project movement, Hoover’s series is different in many aspects: he portrays his subjects with an intentional distance that begs the viewer to take a closer look, collects their stories, and is following up with the subjects over a longer period of time with closer, more intimate portraits scheduled a year from the quarantine period.

This GoFundMe will help Hoover raise funds to support the long-term focus of the project as well as printing and framing for exhibition.

Thank you for visiting. Please, follow along and share. We're all in this together.

Be kind, be safe, and be well,

Roger
