Thank you all for your love and care.

1/25/25 Imani here — and I’m writing to let you know that we are overwhelmed… With LOVE! The outpouring leaves us truly humbled. Thank you isn’t enough…
So, an almost quick update:
Finding a place to fit everyone - and care for everyone - has been the biggest challenge. Most notably a place that can take my Dad (bed bound and terminally ill with end-stage Parkinson’s disease), has caregiver access, and has a downstairs space for our 97 y/o grandma who needs to avoid stairs. Four generations together can involve some pretty close interdependence, hence the effort to mostly stay together in the long term.

For the time being though, some have moved a couple of times between places and will surely move again. Quite frankly, the logistical details are mind numbing. We are hopeful, however, that we can secure a place for everyone in the next few weeks. So instead of feeling like the waves are crashing down on us, we are starting to feel our heads above water and have begun to contact insurances, FEMA, mortgage offices, etc. And all of that has been a real wake up call.
Probably most daunting is the time scale of the task at hand. All the information gathered so far points to a 3+ year process. And dealing with all of this quite far away from our home and work centers has meant less time working, much more time commuting, and an incredible amount of time dealing with paperwork — thus our income has taken a hit and our childcare reality has shifted enormously. We’ve had to adjust our understanding of what it will take to get all seven of them back on their feet in the short and long term - most especially when it comes to care and medical needs. For example, my father can't move or control his body on his own due to his illness. His care is full care, head-to-toe. The typical cost for an adult requiring that kind of full-time at-home caregiving is between $12,000-18,000 per month. That doesn’t include the cost of supplies and food for him, or the labor involved with managing that care. We are (and have always been) looking for ways to get those costs down and stretch our combined funds a little more in order to keep him at home, including multiple family members caring for him at different times outside of his paid caregivers’ hours — which becomes another stretch for our family. That's the reason for the goal change in this funding campaign. We are realizing that it is a time to turn to community and really ask for what we are realizing we need.
For all of those who have already donated, whether that’s monetarily here, or clothes, or gift cards -- we truly cannot express our gratitude enough. We are thankful beyond words. And even if you can only donate a kind thought our way, believe us, it helps. We hope you do not know many more that have been so devastatingly affected, but chances are you know some. Please give them hugs and prayers from us, and let them know that they are not alone. That is what you all have done for us, in every call, text and donation. Thank you for being a part of our village (and extended village!) and continuing to hold us close in your embrace. You help us know that we will make it through!

2 years ago our cousins had an opportunity to buy the house directly across from their mom, our aunt and build a family space where they could keep an eye on their mom (78) and our 97 year old Porpor (grandma), while caring for their father (80) with stage 5 Parkinson’s and dimensia. They invited their nephew to live with them and started their own family.

This week like many others, our family lost absolutely everything they own in the Eaton Fire, spanning across their two properties

Seven family members are now displaced and left with only the clothes on their back.
We are deeply grateful for any and all support or sharing of our Go Fund Me with your friends & family and community.

All donations received will fund immediate essentials and ongoing necessities.
Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected and lost so much.
