Lucha contra el mieloma múltiple: AUTOTRASPLANTE de médula ósea

Mi mamá fue diagnosticada con mieloma múltiple después de meses de estudios, desgaste físico y mucho dolor. Durante mucho tiempo, su condición no fue detectada correctamente, hasta que finalmente un equipo de hematología confirmó el diagnóstico.

Desde entonces, su vida ha estado completamente enfocada en el tratamiento. Ha pasado por mucho desgaste físico, dolor constante y agotamiento extremo. Se cansa muy rápido y se agota fácilmente, lo que también representa un reto diario tanto físico como económico.

Actualmente, su tratamiento es muy costoso. Necesita medicamentos como lenalidomida, ácido zoledrónico y dexametasona, entre otros, que se administran de forma semanal, intravenosa y subcutánea. El costo mensual aproximado es de $100,000 MXN.

Además de los medicamentos, cada mes requiere estudios médicos constantes: análisis de sangre, orina, inmunofijaciones y aspirados de médula ósea para monitorear el avance de la enfermedad. Estos estudios representan un costo adicional de aproximadamente $20,000 a $30,000 MXN mensuales.

Durante estos 9 meses, mi mamá ha sido increíblemente valiente y fuerte, luchando día a día a pesar del dolor y el desgaste.

Hoy, ha llegado el momento de dar el siguiente paso: un autotrasplante de médula ósea. Este procedimiento implica quimioterapias muy agresivas que debilitan completamente el sistema inmune, dejando a la paciente vulnerable a infecciones y complicaciones. Sin embargo, es una oportunidad para lograr que la enfermedad entre en remisión y mejorar su calidad de vida, manteniéndola “dormida” por más tiempo.

El costo total de este procedimiento, junto con hospitalización, medicamentos y cuidados posteriores, supera el millón de pesos mexicanos.

Soy hija única y su principal soporte. Mi mamá lo ha sido todo para mí, siempre ha estado a mi lado en cada etapa de mi vida. Hoy soy yo quien tiene que estar para ella, y no puedo rendirme.

For my mom, my hero: A BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT

My mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma after months of medical tests, physical decline, and severe pain. For a long time, her condition went undiagnosed until a hematology team finally confirmed it.

Since then, her life has been entirely focused on treatment. She has experienced extreme fatigue, constant pain, and significant physical exhaustion. She becomes tired very quickly, which has also created a daily physical and financial burden.

Her current treatment is very costly. She requires medications such as lenalidomide, zoledronic acid, and dexamethasone, among others, administered weekly through intravenous and subcutaneous injections. The approximate monthly cost is around $100,000 MXN.

In addition to her medications, she needs ongoing monthly medical tests, including blood work, urine analysis, immunofixation studies, and bone marrow aspirations to monitor the progression of the disease. These tests add another $20,000 to $30,000 MXN per month.

Over the past 9 months, my mom has shown incredible strength and courage, fighting every day despite the pain and exhaustion.

Now she has reached the next critical step: an autologous bone marrow transplant. This procedure involves intensive chemotherapy that completely weakens the immune system, leaving her highly vulnerable to infections and complications. However, it also offers the possibility of putting the disease into remission and significantly improving her quality of life for a longer period of time.

The total cost of the transplant, hospitalization, medications, and post-treatment care exceeds 1 million Mexican pesos.

I am an only child and her primary support system. My mom has been everything to me,always by my side through every stage of my life. Today, it is my turn to be there for her, and I cannot give up.
