I began creating and filming miniature models during the covid lockdown in 2020 as a way to pass the time in my small Los Angeles apartment. What started off as a simple creative exercise quickly turned into a deep passion for production design, practical effects and story telling.

My name is Rolan Vega, I've been a multidisciplinary artist for the better part of 25 years and POPULATION 19 is the culmination of the many art forms I've applied over the years, slowly fine tuning the craft and developing concept art, story boards, miniature sets, and writing/recording a 70 minute soundtrack.

This is my opus! POPULATION 19 is a love letter to our species, an allegory

of where we may be heading should we completely lose our grasp on artificial intelligence and more importantly, our humanity.

This fan supported campaign will help me keep momentum going for the coming months as I finalize preliminary miniature sets and shoot/edit a proof-of-concept reel by December to pitch to A24 and potentially Netflix's Love Death and Robots series. Donations will greatly help with fabrication supplies, film equipment/location rentals and hiring additional local help (air brush painters, 3D printer specialists, camera operator)
