Poppy’s second fight of Leukaemia

Donation protected
Poppy Dixon is 4 years old and is undergoing her second fight of Leukaemia. This page has been set up to support Pete and Abby with the ongoing costs of being in Bristol until the new year.

‘As most of you know Poppy finished her treatment for a very common type of Leukaemia back in September. However, we noticed some unusual bruising on Poppy's legs a couple of weeks ago or so and took her to the hospital. After several tests, it was suggested that there might be some abnormal cells but unsure exactly what they were. We then went back to Bristol Children's Hospital for futher test which revealed news that was worse than expected.

They had confirmed she had relapsed but the leukemia has taken form in a rarer, harder to treat type of leukaemia. We have been told this is going to be very difficult to treat.

Poppy had surgery this week to fit her central line into her chest and is currently recieving intense chemo and if she responds well she will then need a bone marrow transplant. This will mean that Poppy will be in Bristol Children's Hospital until the new year. Firstly we need find a bone marrow donor. We've been told that this can be performed on a global scale but Oliver being the closest match.

There's no other way of saying this but this will be Poppy's last chance of survival.

Words can't describe what we are feeling right now. Our little world has been shattered once again and we apologise if we do not reply to messages as of yet.

It's so important children like Poppy have the opportunity of a bone marrow transplant as it is truly their last chance.

Sign up now for Poppy and all the other children suffering this awful disease (all it is a swab from the inside of your mouth and post it back).

Lastly, hold your children close tonight and never take their health for granted.

Thank you everyone for your very generous donations, it will really help towards Abby and Pete’s ongoing travel costs and the extra costs of living in Bristol until the end of the year.

Pete will be back in St Austell during the week with Oliver, whilst Abby is at Bristol Children’s hospital with Poppy and they will swap for the weekends. This is so both children will have consistency with both of their parents, however they will not have both parents together for more than an hour handover, once a week. When they’re staying Hospital, they will only have a microwave and toaster for them to prepare their food.

Poppy received intense chemo, 3 times a day for 10 days, and during this time she was very well in herself and full of her larger than life personality. She has now started to become quite well unwell as the side effects of the chemo have hit. She now has her food and medication through a feeding tube, has started loosing her hair, vomiting and spiking temperatures. Her Chemo will restart in 4 weeks and then hopefully they will have found a bone marrow donor. Oliver (Poppy’s brother) has had his tests to see whether he can be a donor but he isn’t a match so please if you haven’t already, please sign up to be a donor at:
