Poppy’s hospital care
Donation protected
Poppy and her sister Peggy are eight years old and very bonded. On Friday July 15th Poppy did not come out for breakfast and when found hiding behind a bookcase was limp and lethargic. After numerous calls to vets in the area, I took her to the only vet office with an opening. After blood work and X-rays, the vet stated she had severe pancreatitis and was untreatable and going to die. He advised I put her down. The vet and I had a bad history and I did not trust his judgement, so I took a copy of her bloodwork along with Poppy to the emergency vet that opened at 6pm. He immediately ordered a urinalysis, suspecting diabetes and he was correct. Poppy was in diabetic ketoacidosis and required immediate supportive care- IV fluids, antibiotics, electrolytes, anti nausea meds, appetite stimulant, blood glucose tests every two hours, and more. On Friday evening the vet gave her a 50/50 chance. Her numbers have been slowly improving, but she is still in ketoacidosis and will have to continue with supportive care until her glucose stabilizes and she no longer has ketos in her urine. She has at least 48 more hours of supportive care in addition to the previous bill amounts. I will post photos of the bills in the updates section.
Poppy was a feral kitten that wasn’t properly socialized when young. She’s eight years old but has only discovered the joy of being pet and interacting with people over the last year. It’s been a long patient process and it’s been a joy to see her coming out of her shell. We are hoping more than anything to bring Poppy home and reunite her with her twin sister, Peggy. If you are able to help in any way, it is greatly appreciated. I know it’s a difficult time for a lot of people and completely understand than many people are not in a financial situation to be able to donate.
