About 4 weeks ago, my baby girl, Poppy, started showing odd neurological symptoms that started off subtly at first but have worsened over time especially over the past week.
Poppy had a visit at her regular vet on Friday and then was referred to SASH and admitted via emergency under the care of the specialist veterinary neurology team.
Poppy has been uncoordinated, off balance, falling over regularly, walking strangely, swaying, and generally been very unsteady on her feet. It was suspected that she may have a mass/tumour in her brain in the absence of other symptoms that would indicate another cause.
Unfortunately I didn't have pet insurance and the bill is currently over $8,000 as Poppy had to be admitted overnight and had several diagnostic tests run including:
- Full blood panel
- Urinalysis
- MRI of her spine and brain
- Lumbar puncture / spinal tap to gather sample of cerebral spinal fluid to test for meningitis, encephalitis, meningoencephelitis or other inflammatory infection
I have received good news that her blood tests, urinalysis and MRI scans haven't shown anything alarming but the results from her spinal tap are still pending.
We still don't know what's wrong with my precious baby and the bills keep climbing and a treatment plan with more costs will be pending spinal tap results. I am about to miss my mortgage payment due next Tuesday 21st.
If you know me, you know that Poppy is my world and my best friend, she is my everything. This time has been so stressful and scary and made all the more stressful because of the financial pressure but I couldn't live with myself to not get her the care and tests she needed to find out what's going on and try and help her. Being without her even overnight while she was at emergency has been devastating and lonely and I have been worried sick that she might have cancer or be dying.
Every cent helps, if you can't donate financially if you have any bottles or cans I can take to return and earn or any other way you could support me even by sharing this, it is so appreciated by me and I'm forever grateful thank you so much.
