“Poppy” is a short narrative film about overcoming grief while growing up. It takes a look at loss and how our communities shape us as young adults in times of turmoil.
Hi, my name is Amelia Tankenson, I am a second-year Film and Television student at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). My work focuses on bringing relatable diverse stories to life through compelling narratives, creative crew, and interacting with communities. I have worked on over 20+ projects while at SCAD and 40+ projects over the past 4 years. I have worked with some incredible individuals whose work ethic, vision, and talent have brought these projects to life.
This project is a segway into making my Thesis next year, and to create this project we need your support! Poppy is about a grieving young woman who struggles to keep her family florist business afloat after the passing of her grandfather. This is an incredibly personal story to me, as I started writing this film during my grandmother’s hospice. I felt overwhelmed and was grieving someone who was currently still with me. Through art, I felt liberated and able to process my grief, and once she passed the story became something I could remember her by.
Art is transformative, film being a medium that can bring people together with its wide ranging platform. We hope this film can be a source of memory, closure, and unity for those who have experienced loss. As a sponsor, you would play a key role in bringing this narrative to life. Helping fund such important aspects as costuming, makeup, production design, and meals for our crew. Thank you for supporting our journey!
