"Poppy", a Columbia MFA Short Film

Hi, my name is Audrey Zane and I am a 1st-year Graduate student in Columbia University's Film MFA program. Over the course of my first year, I have been writing and, with the help of my friend and Producer Anna Dunn, planning my next short film titled "Poppy", which is set to film at the end of June 2023.

This short film is a contemporary retelling of the Greek myth of Persephone and follows Poppy as she struggles in a cycle of being pulled between her ailing, homophobic mother and her girlfriend, Harper. The film explores the complexities of a mother/daughter relationship, focusing on the relationship between Poppy (Persephone) and her mother (Demeter), while also revealing how such a relationship can influence the rest of the daughter's life.

This film is very visual-based, changing tones to follow the cycle of the seasons as told by the Persephone myth, and any donated amount will help achieve this goal through high-quality production design, location fees, etc. At the same time, the cast and crew will be dedicating their time and effort toward making this film a reality, and they will need to be taken care of, whether it's through food or transportation, etc.

Your donation will not go unnoticed! Any amount will be rewarded with the donor name(s) listed in the film's credits as a special thanks, as well as a link to the final project once completed and uploaded.
