My friend Andy Signore recently had his entire YouTube channel PopcornedPlanet.com wrongfully demonetized, stripping him of his livelihood. I wanted to create a fundraiser for him, to show him our support and help independently crowd-fund him this month, so he can continue his fantastic content without any worry.
Platforms like YouTube do not protect their creators. They react act of fear from false flagging, and take their time to right these wrongs. Often this quick reaction can have a hugely negative effect on a growing channel. We can't let these flaggers and this poor algorithm stop the momentum Andy has been building. He needs your support now more than ever!
I believe it was his honest reporting of the Johnny Depp case, that caused certain fans to find a way to take his channel down. This has happened to numerous other channels reporting on the same topic.
To take Andy out, they made a calculated move to mass-flag old content on his channel that featured sexy bikini models. This was extremely popular content that Andy made TWELVE YEARS AGO. Content that had amassed tens of millions of views, making it some of the most viewed videos on the channel.
What makes this even more frustrating is the fact that all of the content had previously been accepted and monetized by google for YEARS. But out of nowhere, a policy change in October 2020, suddenly deemed these old videos as "Sexually gratifying content.".
When the flaggers aimed at his channel firing at the old sexy content, this triggered a manual review by YouTube. YouTube guidelines explain that a manual review "doesn't have time to check the entire channel" so they look at the most popular videos to determine if a channel is still monetization worthy. Andy's most popular videos were still these old bikini videos from years ago.
Andy rebuilt and rebranded his channel three years, turning it into a popular pop culture commentary and news channel. He's since posted over 1,000 videos of professional news coverage. But because ten of his old popular videos were flagged as too sexy, YouTube emails him without warning - taking away all of his hard work.
This isn't right. While Andy takes his necessary 30 days to fight this with YouTube. Lets show his haters, that knocking someone down will only force them back up stronger than ever. Let's get him monetized his month, bigger than ever.
