Pop's G. BBQ Sauces and Rubs

Lorris Gibson Jr. "AKA" Pop's G. has created a line of BBQ sauces and rubs and as he says:  "I ain't gonna lie, I like It!"  Pop's G. rubs and sauces are special not just because they taste great but because they were created with Passion and Love. For those that don't know Lorris Gibson Jr., he is a truly remarkable man.  Lorris' journey to Pop's G. started in February of 2012 when he walked through the doors of Haven for Hope looking for assistance to get sobriety. He had been battling addiction and alcoholism for years by then. Although it took him 2 times going through the In House Recovery Program at Haven for Hope. He can say today that he has 7 years of sobriety, a new view on life, helped changed lives, a fiance, and started laying the foundation for a business he has always dreamed of having!  When Lorris went back to Haven the second time he knew he had to slow the process down and take his time. That is when, even as a trained Chef having been in high management positions,  he knew he had to take a step back. He started volunteering in the St. Vinny's Bistro, moving up to a stipend cook, then cook, then lead cook and now as acting Executive Chef.   Throughout this entire time, he has humbled himself to continue to contribute to our homeless population by continuing to feed (serving over 2.8 million meals to the homeless) mentor  (encouraging homeless volunteers to obtain sobriety, dignity, and self-worth) and guide lost souls ready to be found (serving as a convener to help the homeless take advantage of many services available to them). As Executive Chef, Lorris’ hiring practice reflects his commitment to paying it forward; 70% of St. Vinny’s staff came from homelessness.  And with the opportunity and training, they received in St Vinny’s kitchen many were able to aspire to fulltime positions and to find homes. With feeding this population and operating a kitchen daily on donations alone, he had an epiphany that with the business he had always wanted to create for himself.  He can still create it and give a percentage of the proceeds back to the kitchen to assist in keeping a flow of money coming in to continue to create nourishing meals for our brothers and sisters in the courtyard located at Haven for Hope. Lorris has started this business from the bottom up. from the sauces and rubs in his kitchen at home to logo and labels, to working with amazing co-packers who have helped his recipes come to life and be able to be bottled. Lorris is looking for donations to be able to create an initial run of the sauces and rubs. This way he can start to fulfill orders to individuals wanting the products for home use and also to start fulfilling orders through Amazon.
