The Purpose:
The San Jose Pop Up Choir, started October 2015, is an amazing group of singers and performers from all backgrounds and musical interests, and a community for musical expression and compassion, that we are really grateful and proud to be part of. It was all started by this wonderfully lovable guy and his equally lovely gal:


Yes, that's Sinohui and Karen, our Pop Up parents (and yes, they are as adorable and kind in person, too). =)

We moved to our current studio around fall of 2018, and through Sinohui and Karen's herculean efforts (and with a little help and DIY fun from us), they transformed a bare, (really) cold warehouse area into a warm,  welcoming, happy place with AMAZING audio/video system, fancy spotlighting, cute little bar/snack area, and hang-out spot for Julius (Sinohui's furry orange 4th child).

Please help Sinohui and Karen (and us) support Pop Up Choir and what we do. While we aren't sure what will happen with the Studio moving forward,we want to support Sinohui and Karen with costs that have piled up. The studio has been a rare and precious resource for us, a place where, among many things, we can comfortably sing and hang out, oftentimes into the wee hours of the night; convene and rehearse in a consistent and reliable space with enough room for warm-ups and performing; and stay allergy- and sunburn-free during our more seasonal days. It has always been a place where everyone is welcome; where anyone can join in, get out of their comfort zone to sing in public, and be part of a safe and fun community. This space and these people have not only become a home for us, but enabled us to do more for our society at large. We've rehearsed Hamiltunes (a licensed community performance of the Broadway smash sensation Hamilton), held showcases featuring amazing performances from many of our talented singers, songwriters, and musicians; successfully run charity benefits raising thousands of dollars for our community members, and causes like the Hurricane Maria disaster relief in Puerto Rico in 2017, Hurricane Harvey disaster relief in Texas in 2017, the 2018 California Camp wildfire.

Over the past few years there are quite a few costs that Sinohui and Karen took care of mantain Pop Up Choir and the Studio -- studio rent, utility fees (amplified when our group is there), food/snacks/drinks/ice, party-worthy amounts of cutlery/cups/bathroom stuff, AV equipment, Karafun costs, professional Karafun costs during our fundraisers, Meetup costs, fundraiser overheads, and others. Not to mention all the personal time and effort that Sinohui and Karen spend setting up / cleaning up / storing and transporting equipment.

Please consider donating (any amount is helpful and appreciated!), and/or please spread the word!

Here's how it works:
1) Donations of $25+: You can request a song (and an active Pop Up member to sing it, if you wish) -- we will do our best to create a recording per your request, and post it during OR after the Showcase). Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we can't do group performances, and some Pop Up members may not be available/able to take your request, but we'll do our best! Due to time constraints, max 1 song per $25-increment donation, please. 
- If you donate through Gofundme: Submit song requests through your donation comment.
- If you donate through Paypal or Zelle: Submit song requests through your Paypal/Zelle comment section.
2) Through an anonymous sponsor, individual one-time donations will be 100% matched up to a donation total of $5,000. Ex: If you donate $50, your donation will be matched for a total of $100. If we reach our goal and raise $5,000, that will generate $10,000 total to support studio costs.
