WHO WE ARE
We are Gravitas Docufilms. As many of you already know, we have been making award-winning documentaries in the San Francisco Bay Area for years (see: These Amazing Shadows; Being George Clooney and The Broken Promise). We are now engaged in a documentary project entitled Poor Choices.
Like many of you, we are dismayed and disgusted with the current political environment. We too have signed petitions, attended marches and made donations. But we want (and we need) to do more. How did we get here? How did so many voters make such a poor choice. And what can we do to get out of this environment?
Poor Choices is a film that aspires to make us better humans and in so doing better voters. We are working feverishly to have this completed before…and hopefully impact…the upcoming midterm elections.
STORY
Poor Choices is a feature-length documentary about why people sometimes vote against their own best interests. Do they vote with their heads or with their hearts? Do they vote out of logic or out of tribal loyalty? Is there such a thing as “The Rational Voter”?
Why did over 77 million people vote in 2024 for a man who had been
• impeached twice
• indicted for crimes in 4 separate jurisdictions
• convicted of 34 felonies
• found liable for battery and defamation and
• aided and supported those who tried to overthrow the government in January of 2021.
But our story isn’t just about Donald Trump as a personality—it’s about the culture that made him possible. Our story looks at how modern politics exploit the human brain: emotion over reason, identity over evidence, outrage over accountability.
Part of the genesis of this film is the recent spate of Republicans who voted for Trump but now believe that "they chose poorly" in the last presidential election. Why ? What motivated these "regretters" initially...and why are they now sorry for their vote ? And how do we teach people to make better choices.
We have interviewed Republican voters who have changed their minds and allegiance, as well as political scientists, historians and social psychologists. But we need more. We need your help.
We need to travel (with a film crew) to Seattle, Ohio, Alabama, New York City and Washington DC….to continue our interviews and complete our project. We have interviews scheduled with professors and politicians, with liberals and conservatives, with those who want to save and those who want to end our Democracy.
To date, we have self-funded this project and relied upon contributions from people who share our belief in Democracy…and our need to do more (both individually and as a group) to save it.
Please help us complete this project.
