Hi friends,
As many of you know, I adopted Pookie in January from a rough situation. Over the past few months, she has made so much progress, gaining her confidence back, playing with Penny, grabbing toys on her own, and so on.
Unfortunately, on Mother’s Day, Pookie was playing on the wood floors, slipped, and broke her leg. We rushed her to urgent care because everywhere else was closed. They took x-rays and told us she needed to be put in a splint with rewraps every week and estimated a 6–8 week recovery. That same week, I was going to NYC for a few days.. (Jacob was an angel pie & took great care of her) but when I got back it was the weekend again & her wrapped looked a little messy so we took her back to urgent care to get rewrapped.
At about 2.5/3 weeks, we finally got her to the vet during normal working hours. We followed urgent cares protocol & kept rewrapping her. Around week 5, Pookie got her wrap dirty during the weekend, so we went back to urgent care. ~I have been constantly carrying her around the house, to go outside, to the vet appts, etc. as I was told to not let her put any pressure on her leg~ But when they bring her back from wrapping, they are pulling her on a leash, encouraging her to walk on it... I slightly freak out like - Wait, is she okay to walk on it now?! & they're like "oh yeah! She's almost at 6 weeks she should start trying to walk on it a little now." I think... "Okay cool? We're almost there, just 1 more week & maybe we'll be out of the splint!!"
Then, at her 6-week x-ray, the vet was shocked by her x-rays & disappointed urgent care didn't recommend surgery from the start - her leg had been sitting incorrectly the entire & hasn't healed one bit, now needs corrective surgery to fix it & heal properly over another 6-8 weeks..
I am told the surgery itself is going to cost $2,500 + $200 for check up x-rays/removal of staples, more meds & more rewraps.
Mind you, I spent over $750 on the first urgent care visit, then about $75 a week for her rewraps & another $175 for her 6-week x-rays. I am already in the hole for around $1,500 & now need to figure out how to find another $2,500+.
I really debated doing this, as I know everyone has their life struggles but the cost keeps growing & I can't keep up, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask..
We appreciate any kind of help - whether its just a share or sending love.
Fingers crossed these next 6-8 weeks fly by without any more surprises!
