Pookie's Cancer Treatment

Hey guys,

For those who might not know, Pookie is a 25-year old, full-time college student who independently supports herself financially through college. She bartends on weekends while studying geology at the University of South Florida. She grew up in the Florida Keys, where she was very involved in the community, primarily through sports. Unfortunately, despite being active and healthy her whole life, Pookie has been diagnosed with cancer at only 25. In September 2021, Pookie woke up to find a tumor blocking most of her airway. After an ER visit, many scans, a hospital transfer via ambulance, and a surgery later, Pookie had spent a total of five days in the hospital.

Since Pookie is so young and healthy, nobody (including the doctor) expected the pathology report to diagnose the tumor as clear cell carcinoma of the minor salivary gland. The surgeon removed most of the tumor, but follow-up scans revealed positive margins requiring further treatments. As a result, Pookie will be starting radiation therapy, Monday-Friday, for six weeks beginning on Jan. 26th. Unfortunately, she will not be able to work during this time due to being immunocompromised.

If you know Pookie, you know she takes pride in her ability to be independent and hardworking. But, she is learning that life circumstances are not always ideal and asking for help is not always the worst thing in the world. Any proceeds from this gofundme will be used directly towards medical bills and helping support Pookie while she cannot work for six weeks. She has been very appreciative of everyone who has reached out over the past few months and understands that not everyone is in a position to donate. Although, every little bit helps.
