After years of Trevor asking for his "own dog," we finally caved and decided to adopt an older pup named Poohbert. Poohbert, the 6-year-old Basset Hound, came to us this past Saturday (9/13/25), and Trevor and he became instant best friends. In fact, Trevor claimed, "He is more than my best friend; he is everything I wanted and more!"
After an evening or two, we started to notice he wasn't really interested in his food. We thought, "Well, maybe he is just feeling a little stressed or depressed from the change in environment." After two and a half days of completely refusing to eat, we decided it was time to get him seen. After many tests and X-rays, they discovered he had swallowed what looks like a few toothpicks, causing an obstruction in his bowels, which the vet said most likely happened before he arrived at our home and just started causing issues now.
This was absolutely devastating news, and we knew after being informed of the options that surgery was our ONLY option (the other two being: see if he makes it, or putting him down). We can't do that to Poohbert or our son, Trevor. Pooh's needs any chance he can get to live out the rest of his years making memories with his boy.
They quoted us $5,000 for the surgery, and honestly, that is a lot of money to us, and we just can't swing that extra cash right now.
Trevor said he would sell his iPad to make the money to save his dog (unfortunately, his iPad is one more drop away from being a paperweight, but that was thoughtful of him).
Please, any small amount will help immensely!
