Pony Club Victoria has set up this fund to help rebuild Mallacoota, and other clubs yet to be identified as the fires still rage across the state. 100% of donations will go towards Pony Clubs in distress. The following in Mallacoota Pony Club's story.
Mallacoota Pony Club has lost everything except for Brownie (the rocking horse)! The fires have taken the club rooms and equipment, totally devastating this small rural Pony Club who had worked so hard over the past few years to fundraise for improvements to the facilities.
Mallacoota Pony Club's President, Steph Mews told us the sad news that the club had been destroyed by the fires, club rooms, equipment and families losing property as well.
Steph told us " I am so proud of how these young club members have responded to dealing with the devastation. Our young Pony Clubbers have rallied around their local community and are doing what they can to help others." The Pony Club has 12 members mostly young teenagers.
Steph tells us that Mallacoota's proud club members are determined that this set back is not going to stop them from re-building the club, they will somehow find a way to recover.
Mallacoota Pony Club's devastation will most likely be the fate of a few more clubs before the fires are over. Our young Pony Clubbers in these fire affected areas will be unlikely to escape the need to rebuild as well, with homes and belongs lost, including their horse riding gear.
Pony Club Victoria currently can't give an entire account of what is lost as the fires continue to threaten towns and our members are either leaving their homes or unable to go home for their safety or are busy helping to fight the fires.
The Pony Club Recovery Fund has been set up to help Pony Club families and clubs to get back on their feet after the fires have been fought.
Updates on which clubs have been affected will be provided to this page as we are informed.
