Medical Shadowing + MCAT in Spain

Hello! My name is John and I am a junior majoring in biochemistry at Anderson University.
Photo from the AMSA (American Medical Student Association) Conference in Washington D.C.
I am so pleased to announce that I am a new fellow of the Atlantis Project. This summer from June to July, I will be traveling to Pontevedra, a quaint and old Galician town in northwest Spain, for 4 weeks of the shadowing experience and an MCAT accelerated course.
I will be sharing more information on the program, but I would like to briefly digress to inform you of what psychologists and neuroscientists call a decision making threshold. This is the value of the decision making variable which can be mathematically calculated (we will not go into the mathematics of it), and at which a decision is made in order for an action to be selected or a commitment to one alternative to be made- from the perception of a certain stimulus to the resulting and concluding decision. In the following paragraphs, I will be providing you with a number of reasons as to why this program would be of greatest importance and interest to me, in attempts to “tip you past the threshold” and to stir you into ultimately making a specific decision- to contribute to the funding of this shadow abroad program.
Without further ado, let us proceed:
First and foremost, this summer program will provide me with a greater understanding of the medical field, how it functions, and how the people and roles that are involved interact. I believe that, so often, pre-medical students will prematurely fantasize of what their future vocation will look like- frankly, I myself am not wholly innocent of this. The program includes 20 intensive hours per week of experience through shadowing a physician and weekly rotations in a number of different specialties. This, I find of utmost value as it will be an unbiased and accurate representation of the career I am pursuing, and will expose me to the different specialties that exist and that could be of potential interest to me.
Secondly, I believe that doctors should- naturally, within their practice- be proactive in the advocacy of a better health care system. The program does a most excellent job in emphasizing this in a global context and this is one of the main reasons as to why I applied to the program in the very first place. The shadowing abroad aspect of this program is of greatest importance to me as it will broaden my knowledge in the health care systems that exist and function outside of the US. Furthermore, I would be highly interested in being involved in the future with health policy and even health administration.
Lastly, the very prospect of traveling to Spain sounds absolutely exhilarating! I would not want to miss such an opportune and exciting experience and there is no other way that I would like to invest in my future.
These are the reasons as to why I would like to kindly and respectfully request for your generous funding: $25, $50, $100 or according to however much you will:)
Thank you for your time and interest.
Earnestly and respectfully,
John
