Who We Are and Why We’re Raising Funds
We are Ponterra Mexico, developers and operators of large-scale biodiverse reforestation projects, including our flagship, La Esperanza project in northern Puebla and Veracruz. We are pleased to share that our projects and teams are safe and fully operational following the recent severe weather.
Many of the surrounding communities, however, have been deeply affected by Tropical Storm Jerry, which brought torrential rains and flooding between 8 and 13 October. Over 600 millimetres of rain fell in just a few days, overflowing rivers, collapsing roads, and cutting off nearby towns. Families lost electricity, clean water, and food supplies. Crops and livestock, a primary source of income, have also been destroyed.
We are raising MXN $400,000 to provide urgent humanitarian relief to these neighbouring communities.
Why It Matters to Us
Ponterra’s work is rooted in local partnership. Many of our team members, collaborators, and landowners live in or near the areas most affected. While our reforestation operations remain unaffected, we have temporarily paused non-essential work to assist our neighbours and ensure their safety and recovery.
Over the past several days, our team has:
- Used boats to reach isolated families.
- Distributed clean water, food, and medicine.
- Purchased generators, diesel, and purifiers to restore power and safe drinking water.
- Used drones and Starlink units to assess damage and re-establish communication with remote areas.
We are proud to be part of these communities and believe it is our responsibility to act quickly and compassionately in moments like this.
How the Funds Will Be Used
All funds raised will go directly to relief and recovery operations in the surrounding communities of Veracruz and northern Puebla.
They will be used to:
- Restore clean water and electricity — purchase generators, fuel, filters, and water purification systems for community use.
- Support affected families — provide essential food, medicine, and household supplies.
- Rebuild livelihoods — supply seeds, tools, and materials for smallholder farmers to restart production.
- Revitalise the local economy — temporarily hire community members for short-term recovery work, providing much-needed income after crop losses.
- Re-establish connectivity and logistics — assist local authorities in repairing roads, bridges, and communications.
Every contribution will be managed transparently and directed to immediate, tangible needs on the ground.
Our Commitment
Ponterra will continue to operate the La Esperanza project as normal while dedicating resources and personnel to humanitarian aid in nearby communities.
We are coordinating with local institutions, civil organisations, and volunteers to ensure that support reaches those who need it most and that recovery strengthens the region’s long-term stability.
We have been very fortunate that our project areas remain intact, and we are using that position of stability to help those in need.
