We are reaching out to ask for help for our dear friend, Asuncion “Poncho” Hernandez, during a time of great need. If any of you locals have ever eaten at Tangerine, El Vez, Treno, or The Farm & Fisherman, then you have eaten food prepared by this amazing chef. On Saturday November 4, Poncho left work and went out to grab a bite to eat in South Philly. As he was returning home, the unthinkable happened when someone tried to rob him at gunpoint. In Poncho’s attempt to escape the robbery, running down Passyunk Ave, he was hit and run resulting in a broken leg, wrist, and rib.

Poncho was rushed to the hospital, calling 911 for himself, and after receiving surgery on his tibia, has spent nearly two weeks in the hospital until he was deemed strong enough to return home. Coincidentally, he was evicted from his apartment while in the hospital. He will now continue his recovery under the care of his sister, Lupe, who has traveled here from Mexico to tend to her brother as he recuperates in his new apartment.

The bills from both Poncho’s time in the hospital and his long road of rehabilitation will be enormous, and although he would be the last person to admit this, he needs our help. We ask that you please consider donating to his recovery fund during this difficult time and assisting our amigo when he needs us the most.

Nos acercamos para pedir ayuda para nuestra querida amiga, Asunción “Poncho” Hernández,

durante un momento de gran necesidad. Si alguno de ustedes, lugareños, alguna vez ha

comido en Tangerine, El Vez, Treno o The Farm & Fisherman, entonces ha comido comida

preparada por este increíble chef. El sábado 4 de noviembre, Poncho salió del trabajo y salió a

comer algo al sur de Filadelfia. Mientras regresaba a su casa, sucedió lo impensable cuando

alguien intentó robarle a punta de pistola. En el intento de Poncho de escapar del robo,

corriendo por Passyunk Ave, fue atropellado y se dio a la fuga, lo que le provocó una fractura

en una pierna, muñeca y costilla.

Poncho fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital, llamó al 911 y, después de recibir una cirugía en

la tibia, pasó casi dos semanas en el hospital hasta que se consideró lo suficientemente fuerte

como para regresar a casa. Casualmente, lo desalojaron de su apartamento mientras estaba

en el hospital. Ahora continuará su recuperación bajo el cuidado de su hermana, Lupe, quien

viajó hasta aquí desde México para atender a su hermano mientras se recupera en su nuevo

apartamento.

Las facturas tanto del tiempo de Poncho en el hospital como de su largo camino de

rehabilitación serán enormes y, aunque sería la última persona en admitirlo, necesita nuestra

ayuda. Le pedimos que considere hacer una donación a su fondo de recuperación durante este

momento difícil y ayudar a nuestro amigo cuando más nos necesita.
