This is my dear friend Polly. Anyone who knows her knows she always has this smile on her face. She has the kindest heart and brings joy to everyone around her.
What most don't know is that she suffers every single day from pain. Over 20 years ago, she was hit by a car and broke her L-4, 5 vertebrates and had to be fused. She also had to get C-4, 5, 6, 7 fused as a result of her body overcompensating from the stress. Not knowing how to deal with the pain she laid in bed for 2 years. Four surgeries later, she has devoted her life to God, exercise and healthy eating but now her spine has begun to deteriorate. She has to wear 2 back braces just to walk.
By the grace of God, she found a specialist that deals only with spinal deformities. He will need to fuse her entire spine anteriorly and posteriorly and he will have to anchor screws in her hips. This will be an 11-16 hour surgery and she will be in horrendous pain for the first 6 weeks but after 12 months, she could be completely pain free.
The surgery is scheduled for 3/26/18. The co-pay for the surgery and medication is $5,900 before her insurance will pay 100%. Her surgeon is insisting on using cadaver bone marrow that costs $5,000 per vial and insurance does not cover this. Her only income is social security.
I am asking for your help because she never will. She desperately needs this surgery and has suffered long enough. Please know that every little bit helps and anything you can do is greatly appreciated.
