Polly Rickman's Liver Transplant & Recovery

As some of you may know, our mother, Polly Rickman, was diagnosed with end stage liver disease in December of 2020 and it has been a roller coaster ever since. She worked incredibly hard over the last year to make significant changes to her lifestyle and has done incredibly well! Due to her efforts, she was added to the transplant list in late September and this past Tuesday night, we got the call that a donor had been identified and it was go time.

Our family sprang into action and it has been a non-stop whirlwind ever since. We still haven't really had a moment to process everything but it has been wonderful and mom is doing SO great! We know the cost the donor and family made in order to give our mother this new lease on life and we are so grateful to them for this precious gift they have given us: more time with our mom. We do not take it lightly and the family is in our thoughts every day.

Mom is still at Piedmont Hospital and is recovering better than any of us could have expected. She is in great spirits and we are all so thankful for everyone who has reached out to our family! Those of you who know my mother know she is the first to give and the last to ask for anything. She gives more of herself than she gets back and never complains. If you need help, she will be there. If you are sad, she will cheer you up. She is so kind, affectionate, loving, joyful, talented and beautiful on the inside and out. There is no price tag on what we would have done to save our mothers life, but the actual price tag for this is pretty hefty, so...

Many of you have asked how you can help and the biggest need we have right now is for funds to cover the cost of the medications she will have to be on for the rest of her life. We are trying to raise $35,000 to help cover the initial out-of-pocket expenses. We are looking into all available sources of funds and, we may have to ask for more in the future, but we sure could use some help in trying to avoid the added stress that the medical bills will inevitably create.
