What is the life of an otaku like, in Berlin in 2018? POLAR BEAR (working title) depicts the world of a German otaku, between the boundary-less kaleidoscope of virtual reality and his romantic frustrations in actual Berlin.

THE TEAM 

This is the second collaboration between director Man Dik Sum and cinematographer Marcus Rodert. Their previous short film Detour (Original title: Umleitung), was selected by 6 international film festivals and won the best short film award at Shorties Film Festival this year.

Marcus Rodert



Man Dik Sum, born in Hong Kong, began her career in advertising, jewelry design and media art. In 2017, she graduated with an MA in film directing. Her work revolves around issues of gender and racial and political minorities, ranging from fiction, video art and documentary to music video.
