Poker Players (and friends) Supporting Koalas

Koalas are now officially classified as an endangered species. Let that sink in... The mascot of Australia is at risk of extinction.

Back in 2020, poker players around the world so generously donated over A$100,000 to Australian wildlife affected by the bushfires. We need you again! After such a huge hit to their population, it has been confirmed that koalas existence is officially at risk. But the exciting news is we might have a solution. More on that in a minute… 

During WPT Australia, The Star Gold Coast and World Poker Tour will donate a minimum of $10,000 to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital (it will be a collection of the entry fees from the Shane Warne memorial event on 22 Sep 2022) -- can the poker community help us double the donation?

Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, with ~12,000 patients each year, including ~600 koalas. Its mission is to treat, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. In addition, they have extensive research and conservation programs underway to help protect at-risk species like the precious koala -- something we need now more than ever.

The #1 threat to koalas is Chlamydia. The disease has been spreading through the koala community and stunting reproduction. The amazing doctors at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital have developed a vaccine with the first doses underway! This could be the very saviour that koalas need. 

To keep this kind of research and treatment possible, the hospital relies on community donations. Every single dollar counts. Anything you can spare will help make a difference. Thank you so much!
