My name is Ahava Greenbaum and I'm 15 years old.
When Coach Jeff Fogel nominated me for a basketball scholarship from the Marc Sutton "Player for Life" Scholarship Fund to play on his Mo-Steel girls basketbal team, I was very moved. Why? Marc Sutton passed away when he was 9 years old, and he was my preschool friend. I would not have had the chance to play basketball and become a key player on our team if it were not for Coach Jeff's believe in me.
Shortly after, my mom and I discovered that coach Jeff was diagnosed with ALS - Lou Gherig's Disease. This disease has resulted in his inability to use his arms and legs to coach our girls basketball team and things have been getting worse where he is in a motorized wheelchair and has a feeding tube now.
Coach Jeff inspired me to pursue my dreams, so as a way to give back, I wanted to do something to make a difference for others. So, from my love of sports, music and special needs people, my mom and I created the "Points 4 Love" (P4L) song/music video to help create awareness and funding for charity.
The idea of "Points 4 Love" originated from my basketball team giving community service hours to charity for every point that the Miami Heat basketball team scores in their season.
Our "Points 4 Love" music video features 7-year-old Miriam Goldsmith, who was diagnosed with a cancer tumor that resulted in her inability to walk. She is on a mission to walk again and needs help with medical fees.
Our lead singer is Jeremie Phenom Thomas, is a wheelchair basketball player for the Miami Heat Wheels, and who has spinal bifida and cerebral palsy.
Jeremie is on a mssion to produce music and gain the necessary sports equipment and sports scholarships for athletes with spinal cord injuries, including the Miami Heat Wheels and for other wheelchair basketball teams.
The Points 4 Love project supports wheelchair basketball players get back into the game of life after suffering from debilitating car accidents or gun shot wounds that rendered them in wheelchairs.
NBA Basketball players, Udonis Haslem, Mark Strickland and Kenny Anderson help make a difference.
Coach Jeff has dedicated his life to coaching children for over 20 years. He strives to provide funding for youth scholarships, and he has accomplished taking our Mo-Steel girl's basketball team to the many championships over the last few years.
The Points 4 Love message is to rise above life's challenges and to make a Point 4 Love by being an example of making a difference in the world.
Determined to create funding and awareness for ALS and spinal cord injuries, and to personally help Coach Jeff, Miriam, Jeremie and his wheelchair teammates receive funding for medical fees, as well as to help subsidize sports equipment and scholarships for athletes, we created a GoFundMe campaign, and our "Points 4 Love" song and music video.
