POE IS DEAD 2022!

Donation protected
In my continuing tradition since 1982 of celebrating Poe's life, works and memory, I'm again honoring Poe on Saturday, October 8th at 3 pm with a unique program discussing his mysterious death in Baltimore on October 7, 1849.

This program will be a Live Facebook event held at the Westminster Hall and Catacombs, the grave of Poe, his wife Virginia, his beloved aunt Maria Clemm, his brother Henry and both of his grandparents, David Poe, Sr., and Elizabeth Cairnes.

What happened to Poe while passing through Baltimore on his way to New York City? Was he mugged, beaten, or a victim of a political kidnapping called cooping?

What was the cause of death? Rabies, consumption, or is his cause of death unknown? Currently, there are 22 different theories behind his death! Every year there seems to be another theory just as silly as the previous one.

Hear why Poe had three graves?! It seems even in death; poor Poe couldn't stay in one place!

It was on this date, October 8th that Poe was buried in his grandfather's plot. How apoepriate that we should acknowledge this date with this program.

What is the true story behind the mysterious visitor to Poe's grave, commonly called The Poe Toaster?

Jeff Jerome is the former Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum curator. His tenure at this historic site was from 1978 until 2014. Please note this event has nothing to do with any activities sponsored by the Poe House.

This program is subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. Every effort will be made to update this notice and the special event page on Facebook!
