About The Host

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Mariah Phillips is the creator of the Ed Gap Evolution podcast, which seeks to close the education gap by teaching beyond the textbook.

When explaining what inspired her to create a podcast, Mariah stated that right before the pandemic, she delved into entrepreneurship. In her pursuit, she began to question how she was successful at her entrepreneurial endeavors compared to some peers she grew up with. In addition to her faith in God, she realized that her ‘out of the box’ educational experience (which she credits her mother for) gave her the opportunity to unlock her full potential. Thus, she was determined to create a “free resource that would ensure all parents had access to diverse educational options for their kids.”

Mariah believes parents and guardians play the #1 role in closing the education gap. She says, “Before a child even looks at a textbook, they are educated by their parents throughout daily life and experiences, no matter how wonderful or traumatic. Therefore, parents have the greatest influence over shaping their child.”

With the recent removal of Black History from some schools and textbooks, Mariah Phillips has contemplated taking a “documentary style approach, where the show would thematically connect America’s education past, present, and future.” She believes the podcast will become a space where Black History is archived.

When asked what the future holds for the podcast, Phillips says that documentary-style podcasts and film storytelling are in the show’s future. She also realizes that Black parents are under a lot of emotional and physical stress and believes that episodes of healing the inner child could help with parenting. She sees the podcast as a hub for “education and healing.”

Please support our next three episodes on ending child suicide, and help more children decide that life is worth living - to the fullest,

This is the first time we are fundraising for the podcast because, unlike previous episodes, these episodes on child suicide awareness and prevention require next-level consultation and input from professionals and experts so we can explore this very sensitive topic in a way that delivers the greatest positive impact.
