Hi, my name is Vicki and I am fund raising for Diane and Harry Price. Let's start with their story.
Harry and Diane have beat the odds for many, many years, and it has been a true love story for them. Harry was born with Spinal Meningitis and is paralyzed on the entire left side of his body. Diane was born with a very rare type of Dwarfism and as a result she has undergone 33 surgeries since birth. Diane was diagnosed with Spina Bifida, Scoliosis, Spinal Stenosis, from birth. Diane and Harry have been married for 47 years and, have lived independently, caring for each other, not needing outside assistance until three months ago.
Harry and Diane both started their careers in the medical field, Harry was a sterilization tech for 12 years. Diane was a medical transcriptionist for 8 years at St Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, NY. They met at the hospital and married. Times changed and they both went to work at IBM, New York. Soon after, Diane and Harry realized due to all the orthopedic surgeries and a suggestion from Diane's physician she would benefit from a warmer climate.
With such fate, IBM had a resource called re-deployment which could move them south to the DFW area. Diane worked at IBM 32 years as an Administrative Assistant and Harry worked administratively for 9 years. Harry retired early due to his declining health, keep it in mind he started working at 16 years of age. Harry, when he retired did do small part time jobs and was so willing to do so. Diane and Harry have worked for everything they have, even supporting their parents to their death.
They have made it work because they helped each, other BUT now they are unable to do so. Harry has a diagnosis , Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma malignant tumor above his heart is inoperable. Diane fell five weeks ago and fractured her right shoulder. Both Harry and Diane were admitted to local hospitals and eventually released from the facilities with 24 hour private care, not covered by the insurance.
Current rates are calculated at 30.00 hourly, about $3000.00 weekly. Please consider a donation to help cover the cost for their in-home care. We cannot let them go bankrupt after they fought so hard for so many years. They now need OUR help.
