Hi, my name is Jessi and I'm Mike's wife. This is not the type of thing we do, but sometimes you have to ask for help. We have 6 kids, ages 7 to 21, and we are a quiet family that sticks to ourselves. We work hard together to take care of our family, but in May 2024, things took a turn. Mike had a large lump show up on the back of his right thigh.
After a string of appointments and testing, the lump was diagnosed as Synovial Sarcoma, which is a cancerous soft tissue tumor. Sarcomas are relatively rare, so it's a difficult path to navigate. He completed 25 rounds of radiation to the tumor and underwent surgery in October 2024 to remove it. It weighed 1.2 kg and was the size of a Nerf football by the time it came out. He was out of work for a while after surgery to recover. Between the radiation side effects and surgery, it was a tough recovery.
On January 23rd, 2025, he had his set of follow-up scans which showed his leg is great, the tumor was completely gone, but the cancer has spread to his lungs. He got a biopsy on the lung spots which confirmed it's the Synovial Sarcoma metastasized, which moves him to a stage 4 classification. He's had a chemo port put in, and when all of the testing is completed and we have met with Mayo in March, he will be starting chemo.
Mike is a really good person that works hard and does everything he can to support his friends and family. In general, he's a very healthy person, and cancer was never on the radar. This has been a very hard and complicated situation for all of us, and we know things are tough for a lot of people out there, but any help is so greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
