Please Help My Parents Recover

Hello everyone. For those who do not know me, my name is Mandie Hood. I am creating this in an effort to raise awareness about my parents, Myron and Mary Hood's situation. As they need more help than I can give alone.

I just want to be upfront and say that my dad does not have any form of social media and as a result will not have knowledge of our request for help until the end and we as a family would like to keep it that way. The reason is because as many of you know, my dad is a very proud man and accepting any form of assistance is extremely difficult for him. No matter how much he needs it. As a result, he will not be aware of all of this until it is over.

For those of you who don't know about my dad’s situation, when I was little (around 20 years ago) he had a very serious strep infection. That infection became worse and eventually went into his legs and ever since, they have never been the same. Nearly my entire life, I have seen him with swollen legs and feet as a result of this infection. It has gotten to the point where it has severely impacted his quality of life where the most basic of tasks are too burdensome.

This all came to a critical point in November 2021, when the infection had increased to the point where he could not have any contact on his legs and feet without enduring horrible pain. As a result, it's become impossible for him to work as he has great difficulty walking and even leaving the house. Then this afternoon for the first time in his life, my dad went into surgery. The goal was to remove the infection from his legs. Now that he is in the process of recovering from that surgery, it's almost impossible for him to move at all. The next few weeks are vital for him to improve, or else we will have to start this process all over. He must keep his legs wrapped at all times and be set up to a compression machine daily. Otherwise if he doesn’t do this, he will become septic and my dad will lose his legs.

To help care for my dad, my mother needs to take time off work, for an indefinite period of time in order to be there for him. We have started the process for disability and are hoping that we get approved quickly but we are not hopeful as we have been denied in the past. That is why I am asking for your help, because they truly need it. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers as we try to move forward. Anything you could give would be a huge help to my family during this difficult time.
