Hi, my name is Francesca, and I’m a single mum to five amazing children — including my daughter Martha, who is autistic, non-verbal, and has complex care needs.
Just over a year ago, my children witnessed a horrific machete attack on their father. It was deeply traumatising, and we had no choice but to start our lives over from scratch. We lost our home and most of our belongings. I had to leave work and become a full-time carer for Martha due to her needs.
I’ve now been allocated a permanent home. However, the entire house has no flooring, and that’s something I’ve been told they won’t provide even under disability-related grants.
Why I’m Asking for Help -
This isn’t about luxury it’s about basic safety and dignity. Every child deserves to live in a home with proper flooring, but for Martha, it’s absolutely essential. Because of her condition, she often throws herself to the floor, has meltdowns, and engages in behaviours that lead to injury. Without proper flooring, she’s constantly hurting herself, and we’ve had repeated visits to A&E and walk-in centres.
The bare floors are not only unsafe but extremely distressing for her sensory needs. She needs a space where she can stim, calm down, and feel safe.
What I’ve Already Tried -
I’ve applied for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), but unfortunately, flooring is not included. I’ve also reached out to Family Fund, as well as several other charities — but again, flooring is not something they cover.
I’ve exhausted every option I can think of. I’m only turning to GoFundMe as a last resort, because I don’t know where else to turn.
What We Need Help With:
• Buying and installing flooring throughout the home
• Prioritising Martha’s bedroom and sensory-safe areas
• Creating a space where she can safely regulate and feel secure
If you’re able to donate even just a few pounds or share this with others, it would mean everything to us. I’m doing everything I can for my children, but I can’t do this part alone.
Thank you for reading and for caring.
With love,
Francesca x
