Meet Sadie, our beloved 11 year old American Foxhound. Sadie (also known as Sadie Lady) is 90 pounds of pure love. She brings our family and all of those who know her so much joy. We often say that she could have been a therapy dog. She is remarkably empathetic. She shares in your happiness when times are good, and she gives you extra snuggles when times are tough. On Friday, July 13th, Sadie fractured her right arm while out on a walk at the beach. We later found out that she had fractured through a weakened area of bone caused by a large tumor in her humerus. She was admitted to the vet hospital where she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. As you can imagine, our family was crushed. The only way to save her life was surgery. Luckily for Sadie, and for us, her cancer was localized without metastasis to the chest or abdomen. Unfortunately, repairing the broken bone was not an option.
Anyone who has had an animal knows that they are family. We would do anything for Sadie. That is why we made the difficult decision to amputate Sadie’s right arm on July 17th. 1 day after surgery, we were able to see her for the first time. In true Sadie form, she raised our spirits with tail wags and kisses. She is navigating her new normal with exceptional resilience. We are all so proud of her!
Sadie is doing very well, but she has a long road to recovery ahead. Her medical bills have piled up quickly, and she is expected to remain in the hospital for another couple of days. She will require close follow-up with her vet to ensure proper healing. Please help our family to continue to care for Sadie. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Sadie thanks you too!
We hope to share her continued success as she heals.
