Our dear family member and friend, Juanita ("Nita") Boyle has been stricken with an aggressive brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme). She has been in hospital and long-term care since February. She has lost her ability to speak, but she can understand; however, she is essentially bed-ridden.
If you knew Juanita, you know she was a dancer on Broadway, worked in the Latin Quarter, was a dance teacher, was a Director at the Barbizon School of Modeling, and more recently worked at the Daily News until retiring just four years ago. She was gregarious, intelligent, and fun. She's still here, but her vibrant personality is hidden behind a mask that cannot speak due to the tumor.
In her final weeks, we want nothing more than for her to have Peace and Comfort.
The nursing facility is short staffed, and Medicare/Medicaid make it extremely challenging to place her in a hospice facility which would give her the care she needs, and the wait list is long.
Her many local friends and family are doing all we can to visit and help, but all of her family is out of state. She does have a hospice aide for 2 hours on weekdays, to ensure that she is clean and dressed and eating. But she has no one on the weekends, when we feel she could really use the extra help.
We are reaching out to add a health aide on the weekends, and when the time comes, to pay her final expenses. We love our Nita and since this is a fight she cannot win, we want her remaining time to be loving and comfortable.
Any amount is helpful; you can donate anonymously. You may leave messages, and even photos, here!
With love and respect for Nita,
Her family
