Help Tyler Recover from Life-Changing Jaw Surgery

Okay, my early efforts were a bit off track (getting old, I guess) as I said son-in-law. Tyler is my step son. Let’s get it right, Chuck.

I am starting a GoFundMe campaign for my step son after he came through a major medical procedure. He wrote the following regarding the surgery and the financial obligations. You will see that the surgery was done out of network which of course compounded the financial strain. The surgeon, who was highly recommended was unfortunately out of network but because he was held in such high regard, it was decided to move forward, no matter the uncovered costs. And yes, as expected the surgeon did the exceptional work and the surgery was a total success.

What follows is Tyler’s recounting of what made the surgery necessary, the financial strain, and the gratitude he has for the procedure’s success which will allow him to live a much more normal life.

My name is Tyler, and I’m humbly asking for your support as I navigate one of the most challenging periods of my life. In November 2024, I underwent double jaw surgery to correct a severe underbite that had caused me years of pain and difficulty. The procedure was medically necessary, addressing issues like chipped teeth, loud clicking noises while eating, and discomfort that impacted my daily life.

This surgery had been planned since I was young with my doctors recommending I wait until my mid-20s for my jaw to stop growing. Finally, at 24, I was ready to take this crucial step toward a better quality of life.

But life threw me an unexpected curveball. Just two months before my surgery, I lost my job. While I was able to continue my health insurance through COBRA, the surgery was out-of-network, leaving me with a significant financial burden.

The recovery process has been physically and emotionally draining although I cannot help being concerned about my future obligations.

This surgery has been life-changing, giving me the chance to live without the constant pain and challenges of my underbite. I could not be more appreciative of the expertise of my surgeon and the medical staff that cared for me before and after the procedure.
