Hello, my name is Rachel, and I’m at a very difficult point in my life right now and desperately need help.
I’m 40 years old, I live in Central Florida, and I am currently married to my husband, Nathan. I was hopeful about things for this relationship to improve, but things have been tumultuous, tense, and they reached their worst on Sunday when he screamed at me in bed for watching a movie he didn’t like, then grabbed my phone violently out of my hands while I was in bed, and assaulted me, flipped me over his back into a guitar stand, held me down on the ground so hard it bruised my arms, as well as giving me cuts, bruises, and rug burn all over my legs, and even a bruise on my chest when I tried to get my cell phone back.
When I tried to call the cops, he managed to do it first because he still had my phone along with his own and proceeded to lock himself in the bathroom. He told me through the door that he was calling the police, which he did, and he tried to tell the police that I was having a "mental emergency" and that I needed help.
When the cops got here, I was very fortunate that they were able to make sense of what actually really happened, and allowed me to explain and show them how and where everything happened.
This resulted in his arrest and since this time, I’ve been trying to come back from this and have also been speaking with a counselor.
I am safe at this time in my home, but I am on my own and broke while waiting for my Social Security check to come next month, and I don’t have access to my husband’s VA income, which doesn’t come till next month either.
His court date is March 6th, and I have no idea what is going to happen after that. The situation has me nervous and anxious, as I don't have anywhere else to go if and when he gets out at some point, nor can I keep the house afloat on my own as things currently are.
What I’m asking for help with is basically to help jumpstart myself into being able to start working again and supporting myself while preparing for the near future to get back on my feet and start anew.
I do have a plan to do this.
Firstly, I desperately need to get my car back on the road in order to be mobile and to resume my old job, which is driving Uber, Lyft, and/or DoorDash.
The issue with the car is the front brakes are completely shot and need replacement. The car is not safe to drive, and it's making vibrations and grinding noises. This is something I wanted to address a while ago, but it was difficult to get my husband to agree to get it done.
Second, I desperately need groceries while I wait for my SNAP benefits to replenish on the third of next month, also just the simple essentials to take care of my cat who's running out of food and litter.
And finally, just a tank of gas for the car so that I can start off fresh when getting back to work after the car is fixed.
Any donation of any size would mean the world to me as anything and everything truly helps.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this. If anyone can share this around, I also greatly appreciate it.
$300: front brakes
$100: groceries to get me through until March 3
$50: one tank of gas to get me started working again.
