Meet Penelope, a bright and beautiful little pug lady who, a baby at not quite 2 years old, is fighting for her life.
Surrendered by a breeder when she began rapidly losing weight and the owner could not afford to take her to a vet, Penelope came to Green Mountain Pug Rescue (a non profit 501 (c)(3) rescue) on her last legs. Lethargic, shaking, emaciated and in incredibly poor health, GMPR immediately wisked her away to the vet for i.v. fluids and blood work.
Well, let me tell you, thank goodness this little angel was brought to us in time! After several vet visists, blood draws, and multiple misdiagnoses, it has been determined that little Penelope has a liver shunt as well as Atypical Addison's Disease which is being treated with Prednisone.
Unfortunately, the cost of treating a liver shunt can be quite costly, quoted between $3,700 to $5,000 for surgery alone. Including the vetting costs that have already accumulated including blood tests, multiple vet visits including meeting with an endocrinologist, and ultrasounds, little Penelope will need to undergo another series of ultrasounds to determine the severity and how to proceed with surgery. This little sweet heart is turning into our $10,000 pug!
She is currently in foster care and being fed 4 times a day as she cannot process food to gain weight. She is being kept comfortable before surgery by her doting foster mom and we are hoping for a happy and healthy recovery following surgery when she will be available for adoption. Such a young lady shouldn't have her life cut short!
Please consider donating to offset some of the medical expenses that Green Mountain Pug Rescue is incurring to care for this angel. Rescue comes at a cost, both financially and emotionally. Any left over funds raised will be used for medical expenses for our other rescues.
