Fuck Cancer - my boob is trying to kill me

Hi as some will know I’m Sharmain

I have recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of advanced breast cancer. (Stage 3, Grade 3 Her2+ if interested)

I had to fight to be taken seriously as I am apparently quite young, I had to overcome stereotypes, stigmas and the dreaded “it’s just hormones” associated with woman’s health concerns.

so basically the point in this page is to make my diagnosis public, to raise awareness of breast cancer at any age and the increasing rates associated with the big C. Also I would like to emphasis putting trust in your inner voice and gut feelings (you know your body better than anyone else). You are your own biggest advocate. It’s also to reach out to friends, family and anybody who has been touched by cancer in any way. I for one have lost too many loved ones to forms of cancer including mum, dad and my now my wee Nana who passed away on Sunday evening surrounded by the ones she loved, after putting up on hell of a fight and can honestly say I am heart broken.

It changes you in ways you don’t expect.

It is a lonely time and it’s only just beginning for myself personally with intensive treatment starting this week for the the next year

So I am attempting to take control of the only thing I can at the minute, which is my hair before it falls out, I’d like to do it on my terms.

I have a young family of a 3, 12, 14 and 20 year olds and want to do something to make this less traumatic if possible and to lighten the mood. So I am looking to get together in October, the weekend of 18th October during the day in The Crown in Newmilns. Full details TBC. I am asking for volunteers to do a mass brave the shave. I want to make light in a respectful manner of a very difficult part and underrated process of losing ones identity and sense of self. I would also be grateful for any donations that you could make, big or small, that will be donated to a Charity of choice by my children when the time is right and they are ready. The donations will be split 3 ways, Marie Curie to help combat all cancer, a leading breast cancer charity of their choosing and the remaining third to the charity that they feel has supported them the most through this journey. Doesn’t matter how much and if you can’t donate then support on the shave day would also be greatly appreciated. There will be a wee pint for supporters and participants.

thank you for taking the time to read this and reach out if you want to speak with me.
