Help future Burmese women leaders
Donation protected
Despite an increased global call for gender equality and women empowerment, the issue of gender inequality is a pressing global concern. Research shows that women in Myanmar are rarely in positions of power whether in government or in the private sector, and they often encounter multiple barriers to taking up positions of leadership at all levels of decision making. In a report by MacGregor (2015), only five percent of parliamentarians in Myanmar are women which compares poorly to the rest of ASEAN. Myanmar is in the process of transitioning from a Military government to a more democratic one. The project firmly believes that women can play a role in this transition in creating and sustaining a viable democracy. Thus, this project is both timely and imperative to improving Myanmar’s political situation and advancing women’s rights in the country.
To address gender inequality and empower women, Project Myanmar 2017 - Taunggyi aims to change the mainstream perception towards women of Myanmar, through 3 main domains:
(1) Giving Burmese women personal development opportunities.
(2) Train Burmese women with leadership and management.
(3) Expose Burmese women to community engagement.
To achieve these 3 domains, we will provide for Burmese women:
- Leadership Workshps
- Talks and sessions about the current situation in Myanmar and in the World.
- A trip for Burmese women to visit and learn at the National Parliament of Myanmar.
- A service activity where participants will organize a women empowerment awareness campaign in a local community.
- The opportunity to establish a mentoring club that will sustain the impact of trained women to more audiences from different regions in Myanmar.
In order to realize the activites listed above for Burmese women, we are raising money to cover for the costs. The following is the details of the cost:
1) Stationary logistic/Printing: 200 USD
2) Parliament Visit to Nay Pyi Taw: 1800 USD
3) Trainers: 1500 USD
4) Community Engagement & Organization Visit: 360 USD
Total: 3860 USD
