Plz help Nory Sontay Ramos navigate life now, without mom.

I'm one of Nory's former high school teachers, and with permission from her family in Los Angeles, I set up this fundraiser- family also ok'd the write-up and translated it for everyone to read in Spanish. I have been in touch with her through this whole ordeal. It takes a village to care for our students, and our school family (and partners) brought this front and center in SoCal, and then this story went national, thanks to The 19th, MSNBC and Nory/Estela's family. But, there has been a horrific turn of events.

Soy uno de los maestros de Nory en ALC y he estado en contacto con ella durante toda esta terrible experiencia. Se necesita a toda una comunidad para cuidar de nuestros estudiantes , y la familia ALC (y sus socios) lo pusieron de manifiesto en el sur de California, y luego conseguimos que esta historia se difundiera a nivel nacional, gracias a The 19th, MSNBC y a la familia de Nory/Estela. Nory's mom passed away suddenly Monday, Sept 8/early Sept 9 morning, without warning or pretext. She is now a young adult in a country she does not know, with family she is now being reacquainted with.

La mamá de Nory falleció repentinamente el lunes 8 de septiembre/madrugada del 9 de septiembre, sin previo aviso ni motivo aparente. Ahora es una joven adulta en un país que no conoce, con una familia con la que está volviendo a familiarizarse.

I want Nory to be able to have access to money/cash as she navigates this new life, now without her mom. She has family nearby but prefers to stay where she is currently, with memories of her mom in the apartment they shared.

Quiero que Nory tenga acceso a dinero en efectivo mientras se adapta a esta nueva vida, ahora sin su mamá. Tiene familia cerca, pero prefiere quedarse donde está, con los recuerdos de su mamá en el departamento que compartían.

Money raised in this particular GoFundMe will be transferred to a savings account that Nory has continual access to - until she is able to open her own account in Guatemala, then the funds will be sent to her own personal account. This will be used for her day-to-day living expenses: furniture, utilities, internet/phone, food, clothing, etc., so she can continue her life, register, log in to her classes, and keep in touch with family and friends back in the U.S.

She will also use this money to apply for her Guatemalan ID, with which she can then open a savings account for herself.

I am keeping track of all deposits and receipts used for Nory and this is only temporary, as the savings account gets set up and she gets access with her bank card, now en route to her.

El dinero recaudado en esta campaña de GoFundMe se transferirá a una cuenta de ahorros a la que Nory tendrá acceso continuo. Se utilizará para sus gastos diarios: muebles, servicios públicos, internet/teléfono, comida, ropa, etc., para que pueda continuar con su vida, matricularse, asistir a sus clases y mantenerse en contacto con su familia y amigos en Estados Unidos.

I want to thank everyone for the continued support shown to Nory and Estela throughout the past few months and especially those emails and phone messages sent to me in the past weeks. This is the way we can help her now - the legal fund is separate as this is for immediate needs for Nory's solo life, going forward.

UPDATE: Nory will make her own financial decisions, but at some point she will transfer a portion of theses funds to her legal fund, the first GoFundme when she and mom were deported, June 30/July 1, 2025.

Your unbelievably big hearts and AMAZING DONATIONS, after hearing about Nory's most recent hardship of losing her mom, will allow us to send Nory clothes she needs for the Winter (now) and get the internet/router setup for her ASAP. Your generous actions totally revive my faith in humanity of those in the US and perhaps around the world willing to help our young woman achieve her immediate and long-term goals.
