Polar Bear Plunge For Preemies 2015

Our son Caden Anderson Dyer was born 8 weeks prematurely on November 30, 2013. He was just 32 weeks and weighed only 3lbs 1oz. Caden spent 31 days in the NICU at Beth Israel in Boston, learning how to do the most basic life functions that so many of us take for granted. Today, he's a 20 lb healthy and happy one year old who is learning to walk, starting to say his first words and achieving milestones that a year ago we never thought possible. Without the help of his incredible team of NICU nurses and doctors and organizations such as the March of Dimes, he would not be where he is today.
Premature birth is something that affects 1 in 9 babies born in the United States every year. While this number has slightly declined over the past seven years, it is still too high. Until Caden was born, we had no idea of the true challenges that come with a preterm birth or the pain that comes with watching your child hooked to tubes, inside an incubator. While we have been very lucky with Caden's development and health, many families face complications and struggles that last for months or even a lifetime. Our wish is that every mother and father get to experience the joy of holding their baby the day he or she is born and that no baby should have to start their life fighting to survive.
We are asking for your donation as we continue our annual tradition of plunging into the icy waters of Boston Harbor on New Years Day in honor of all preemies and their families! That's right; we will throw on our speedos, cleanse our sins and wake up the new year at the L Street Brownies Polar Bear Plunge in South Boston . Your support for March of Dimes will make those New England frigid waters that much more bearable and more importantly, will get us one step closer to a world of healthy and happy babies. Thank you in advance for giving families like ours the opportunity to experience what it feels like to bring a happy and healthy baby into this world:)
